TS:  Unsuccessful students don’t set goals.

F:     For example, according to Skip Downing in his book, On Course, “they often quit when difficulties arise” (63).

O:   This shows that they don’t set a goal and stick with it.
O:    This also shows that they lack the motivation that having a set goal creates.

F:  In addition, the author mentions that unsuccessful students think, “How am I going to accomplish that” (77)?

O: This means that they don’t have goals.
O:  This also shows that they don’t have a life-plan to motivate them.

F:  Moreover, Downing mentions that “for some people long-term goals are too distant to be motivating” (77).

O:  This means that some students don’t even try to set goals, and that is why they are unsuccessful.

BP 2 draft-

TS: Unsuccessful students aren’t organized.
F:  For Example, according to Skip Downing, these students fall “behind in their assignments, coming to class unprepared and expecting to get good grades with little effort” (24).
O:  This means, then, that being organized will help students keep up with assignments, and that will help them be successful.
O:  This also means that being unorganized can affect a student in many different ways.
F:  What’s more, unorganized students don’t plan for the future so they, “give little effort in choosing and preparing for a career” (Downing 48).
O:  TST they either don’t care or don’t have a clear picture of what they want to do in the future.
O:  TAST they expect things to happen on their own and they don’t take charge of situations.
F:  Additionally, unorganized students blame their failures on “the book, poor performance by their instructors, or the time the class meets” (Downing 23).
O: TST the unorganized student makes excuses for their lack of planning.
O:TAST being unorganized leads to problems.
CS: Unorganized students suck.

Building a C/C paragraph draft

TS:  Successful students are organized.

F:    For example, according to Skip   Downing, “A monthly planner is an easy and effective self-management tool” (108).

O:    This shows that students who use one will be able to keep track of assignments in classes.
O:    This also shows that students who use one are unlikely to fall behind.

F:  In addition, in On Course, the author writes that organized students also are “regularly planning out and carrying out purposeful actions” (Downing 139).
O:  This shows that they are unlikely to miss deadlines.
O:  This also shows that they have a plan for what they do and when they do it, and that helps them be successful.

F: Moreover, successful students “…make a plan then take one step after another even when they don’t feel like it” (Downing 113).
O:  This shows that being organized and having a plan is part of being successful.
O: This also shows that success comes from taking things step by step and making work easier.

CS:  Successful students are organized.
